The first picture I came across was on SeattlePostGlobe, and I thought it was truly amazing. http://seattlepostglobe.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=142:safe-at-home&catid=35:sports&Itemid=54 It captures the moment where Detroit Tigers’ Brandon Inge is sliding home to beat the tag of Mariners’ catcher Jamie Burke. It shows the intensity of the moment and the struggle that Inge is going through to beat the tag of the catcher. It also shows the intensity in Burke who is desperately trying to get the out on Inge. This definitely captures a good sports moment, and would definitely compliment the story of how the Mariners struggled throughout the whole game and got defeated pretty badly.
Here is another photo that I really enjoyed. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/20/world/middleeast/20holocaust.html?hp I know, it is from the New York Times (surprise, surprise, I love the New York Times), however I think it captures a very good moment that really compliments the story. First of all, the picture shows two orthodox Jews on the far left of the screen and a museum-looking room with swastika signs and Nazi history on the right. Secondly, it shows the Orthodox Jews peering down. Even without reading the story, it is easy to infer what the main point of it is. Even after the wake of the Holocaust, Jews are still facing very hard times. This picture is very interpretive and contemplative, which is what I particularly enjoy about it.
Here is the link to another picture that I found to be really good. http://www.time.com/time/picturesoftheweek/0,29409,1890451_1867145,00.html This picture shows the effects of the recent major Earthquake in Italy. The picture not only shows that a lot of damage has been done to the city, but also shows the sense of panic in the people, who are getting rescued out of their homes and are out in the middle of the street. This definitely catches a good story about a major natural disater.
